Scope

What we do, what we don't, and who else you may need

Dr. Mukherjee is a general dentist. Her jaw-pain training is continuing education, and jaw and facial pain care by a general dentist is not a recognized dental specialty here.

What we do

  • Examine the jaw, the muscles, the joint and the bite
  • Take X-rays or scans when they will change what we do
  • Make a night guard when one fits your teeth and your story
  • Repair teeth that clenching has worn or cracked
  • Give you your options and a written estimate before treatment

What we don't do

  • Diagnose ear, sinus, nerve or headache disorders
  • Promise that pain will go away, or by when
  • Manage medicines for long-term pain
  • Treat children's jaw problems

Who we may send you to

  • A dentist whose practice is limited to orofacial pain
  • An oral and maxillofacial surgeon, for joint damage or a locked jaw
  • Your doctor, or an ear, nose and throat doctor, for symptoms beyond the mouth
  • A physical therapist, for jaw and neck muscles
  • A physician, for a sleep evaluation when snoring or pauses in breathing come with clenching

Not a substitute for medical care

Jaw or neck pain with chest pressure, shortness of breath, sweating or nausea can be a heart problem. Call 911. We are a dental office, and what you tell us is no replacement for your doctor.

  • Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head, or bleeding that won't stop needs emergency care now. Go to an emergency room or call 911. If a tooth is knocked out or broken, call our office right away.

Not sure if we're the right visit?

Call and ask. If you'd be better served elsewhere, we'll say so before you book.
